Tech Corps Ohio in Cincinnati

Fellow Hivers:

See e-mails below on "Tech Corps Ohio in Cincinnati" at www.techcorpsohio.org.
I will bring this thread to tonight's business meeting for group
consideration.

This initiative is somewhat aligned with the Hive's more altruistic
goals and the contacts and publicity benefits are there to consider
into the future.

TECH CORPS Ohio has developed the TECHie Club program, with support
from the American Electric Power Foundation. TECHie Club is designed
to introduce elementary students to technology and all its
possibilities. Through a series of hands-on, interactive activities
students learn the fundamentals of Computer Programming, Robotics,
Informatics and Digital Media. The over-arching goal of TECHie Club is
to introduce students to knowledge, concepts, and skills that are
necessary for success in today’s classroom and tomorrow’s workplace.

The bottom line is they are looking for volunteers to be one-of-four
adult "tech savvy" leaders in a once-a-week after-school two-hour
"TECHie Club" program with a planned tech theme for a group of about
twenty 4th or 5th graders at one-of-four specific elementary schools
between now and May. The downside seems to be the timing is not
compatible with a 9 to 5 job.

Interested folks should mark their calendar and plan to attend the
TECH CORPS Orientation/Training Session on Thursday, February 11, 2010
from 5:30pm – 8:00pm at Fairview-Clifton School @ 3689 Clifton Ave,
45220 (dinner will be provided). During this session, volunteers and
their school team will get to know each other, learn how use the
TECHie Club lessons and materials to successfully implement their
program and create a timeline/schedule for implementation. This
meeting is mandatory for participation. TECHie Clubs will begin to
meet after the Orientation/Training session.
