Cord Cutting,

Hey gang,

I’m looking for a little input I been messing with giving up with satellite TV etc,
I been messing with Plex / Emby / Kodi , and wondering if anyone out here in this group messed with solutions for the POS Samsung tv’s

First I’m not overly crazy about Plex accessing my library and tracking what all i do and my devices paired to their site…

Emby working with my devices really well cept the Samsung …

Like to be able to have Kodi on the Samsung tv somehow,

I’ve never messed with any the Chromecast / firestick / roku stick / apple tv. etc,

anyone have good suggestion to put on Samsung and a dumb tv ?
Or just put a computer on the hdmi or something and cut my troubles lol

My library is on a NAS that the Samsung updates has made it unable to access my DNLA
And my Win 7 Media Center no longer works with it either,
Have the same issue with Xbox,

Also wondering if anyones messed with like HDHome Run Connect device for over the air / DVR features for normal TV which is what make up like 90% anything new i watch anymore anyhow, or News,

Any help/ input would be greatly appreciated,
Barry

I have a mix of subscription and some purchased stuff on a dlna. Roku supports both, BUT, your media must be in a format that roku handles (it handles very few, as this is where licensing issues arise). So, I set up a few ffmpeg scripts that transcode my media to compatible codecs and they work well. I would assume firestick, etc is similar. Manufacturers have to pay for the codecs, so that’s half the battle (and, essentially what plex does under the hood, but I prefer just doing it myself once and moving on).

My impression of kodi is that it’s neato, but not yet mature enough to handle both purchased and hacked media and netflix, amazon etc with any ease.

In conclusion dmca sucks. Ffmpeg is probably the best Swiss army knife to get your media back by controlling the format (and the metadata)…
