1st DIYBio meetup at Hive13

A few of us at the Hive are interested in getting into DIYBio. We are holding a first meetup Tuesday Aug 5 to talk about space for projects, ideas, funding, etc. Eventually we’d like an actual bio hackerspace, either as part of the Hive or a separate entity–the USA midwest is really lacking!

The DIYBio meeting will be after the Tuesday update meeting, probably about 8:00. Anyone is welcome to attend (not just Hive13 members).

If you interested in learning about DIYBio:

Interested, not sure I’ll be available

Do you think there would be general interest in developing a microfluidic sequencer and synthesizer? I know there’s already existing projects out there but I’m not real clear on how to work with PDMS. This stuff was in its infancy when I was doing bio in college; even when I was doing equipment validation at Merck.

Maybe!

There are DIYBio people working on this stuff. For example: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/diybio/DNA/diybio/F2LCiBe4bN8/uH8fX07Y_5YJ

It would be very cool, but also likely very expensive and time-consuming project. Probably would not be able to dedicate enough time to something like this myself. No harm in asking around if there’s interest though

I’d like to hear more.
