Regarding the old roll of 1.75 mm white: I brought that in and considered it a donation, if I wanted to reserve it for personal use I would have put my name on it.
Cheers
Mike
I brought in two rolls of Black and one of Natural from the same vendor I got the Gigabot filament in (B3D is the name from eBay.)
Also, I didn’t mean to say you couldn’t use anything other than PLA… it’s just that our software only works with PLA… you are more than welcome to use Repetier-Host and use any other material you want. It will print everything from PVA all the way through Polycarbonate.
If you have questions about the temperature ranges, just ask.
Bill
Oops… it isn’t B3D after all… it’s ZK or Zini Kinetic. They just launched a Kickstarter for their new 12" cubed printer here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1870202631/the-origin-a-3d-printer-sized-and-priced-for-you

I’d just like to say everyone is awesome.
Carry on

I thought I would weigh in and suggest that perhaps we provide an allotment of free filament per month, per person, ie each member gets 1/4th kg per month.
If filament is left over from the previous month (let's use easy made up numbers of 40 members, so 10kg filament purchased per month) it becomes free to use, if we have more than 10kg of filament in the free to use, we don't buy more.
This way we have a more structured way of potentially preventing abuse while leaving a pile of filament for people to use for free.
Also, having a huge stash of filament now means we wouldn't need to wait a few months to build up "stock".
Just a thought.
Oh, and Bill, I need to replenish the filament I used on the polar, I forgot to ask what the best way to buy it from you was. I can sense we'll need some more 1.75 so we don't go through it so fast. Should I buy it from the site and put a note so we don't have to ship it?
Jim, I would be all for a more specific rule, is there a good way to calculate this based on slicer mms? Or is it as simple as placing all your extrudites on a scale?
- Also who will moderate this? It means taking monthly inventory and placing orders, I guess that’s not too bad.
As for Polar filament goes, Ryan I believe bought a 1kg, and I bought .25Kg, we should be okay for the moment! The Polar site has a box for special instructions, when you place your order, just add a note there for the Hive and choose local pickup.
For a rough estimate, 1 KG of 3mm filament is 110m long.
There is variability from roll to roll.

OK two things: whoever was printing the print peeled and the extruder ran into it.
2: the left polar printer has some filament at the top. Never seen this before.
The issue you see on the Polar 3D printer is due to the filament not being fed through the top handle… the angle was too sharp to enter the extruder and it simply scraped a little off as it went in… no harm.
If you do this with ABS, you can add it to Acetone to make your ABS Slurry for sticking to the build plate… but with PLA… you just throw it away.
The other print is Ian’s (Popcorn Maker Ian) I believe… he was working on that logo last night and most likely is still asleep since he, Ryan and I were here until this morning.
Bill
I just picked up a small roll of makerbot 1.75 white (I know, I paid too much). Anyway, it'll be for community use.
On a side note: should we just start referring to Ian as Orville (Redenbacher)?
